.WE ARE HERE ON BEHALF OF PEACE!
WARS NO LONGER WORK. Ultimate weapons exist but cannot be used. They do not work even for bluff purposes. India and Pakistan have nuclear weapons but dare not unleash them. Jesus words, “...all who take the sword will perish by the sword” are literally true when we substitute “bomb” for sword. Thus war has morphed into unrecognizable forms (flying planes into towers) that are unfightable and that settle nothing. A missile may shoot a missile, but what can be dispatched against an anthrax spore?
Here are some of the things wars now do: *increase hatred and resentment *increase incentives for revenge *destroy communities *kill civilian non-combatants, women and children - referred to as “collateral damage”! *maim civilian non-combatants *go on killing and maiming, via land mines, long after treaties are signed *sap funds that should be used to make a better world and preserve our fragile planet *decrease thinking and imagining ways to improve life on earth for everyone.
Because wars once seemed to work, we now live in cultures that have developed a belief in and support for violence. For the safety of all of us we must begin creating a culture of peace. Such people as Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, Lech Welesa and Corazon Acquino have demonstrated - yes, DEMONSTRATED - that there are effective nonviolent ways of solving problems.
